This interview will be recorded for simultaneous interpretation purposes to make it easier. But perhaps you have noticed on CNN.com and other platforms that the topic of UFOs exploded recently because the United States government released videos showing contacts or sightings by U.S. military pilots of unidentified flying objects. These events did not happen recently but rather a few years ago. However, now, when the U.S. government directly releases these videos, it raises many questions and personal inquiries. Some might say, “I knew they were hiding something.” Others might look for recent information, like an interview I conducted on this matter. CNN English also interviewed the guest we have with us now: Luis Elizondo, who has been closely associated with this subject. Luis, welcome and thank you very much for joining us. Luis: Thank you very much for having me. Host: We know you are fascinated by this phenomenon and that you worked at the Pentagon for five years studying these issues. But you left. Why did you leave the Pentagon seven years ago? Luis: I actually left the Pentagon two years ago, after being part of the program for nearly a decade—ten years. Ironically, I left out of loyalty and patriotism to the Department of Defense. Externally, we were observing a problem that the current bureaucracy in the Pentagon was not allowing us to report to the department’s leadership. Host: When you say “this information,” what information are you referring to? Luis: We were analyzing data from weapons systems, electro-optical systems, radar systems, aviation systems, and uniformed observers. This information raised significant concern because we did not know what it was. We didn’t know how they operated; they were moving with impunity in our controlled airspace. From the Department of Defense’s perspective, there is a potential threat. Host: Do you think the government knows exactly what these UFOs are or doesn’t know? Luis: I don’t want to speculate about what the government knows or doesn’t know. I am no longer employed by the U.S. government. But at that time, when I was employed, we had no idea what they were. Whether they were adversarial aircraft or even American aircraft—they were entirely different. Based on our research, we were confident they weren’t our technology, nor did they belong to adversarial countries. That leaves us with other possibilities. Host: Based on your experience or material you’ve studied, do you believe these could be from Earth or extraterrestrial? Luis: That’s a good and logical question. I wouldn’t want to offer a premature opinion. We have much to investigate and need more data and facts before forming a definitive opinion. But yes, considering the flight characteristics—extreme deceleration, supersonic speeds, maneuverability without wings or motors—it’s a valid question to ask where these objects come from, who controls them, and their intentions. Host: Could it be advanced technology from other countries or the U.S.? Luis: It’s improbable that it’s advanced technology from the U.S., especially since Congress receives the same security briefings as I did, and there’s no indication that it’s secret U.S. technology. Also, the U.S. wouldn’t test such technology around military operations where everyone could see it. Host: Personally, do you think we are alone in the universe? Luis: To answer that, consider that life on Earth comes in many forms, sizes, and colors. Comparing a human to an oak tree, both are alive but operate entirely differently. The same logic could apply to extraterrestrial life. The question of whether life exists elsewhere is valid. We are investing billions in NASA to look for microbial life on Mars and use radio telescopes to detect signals from hundreds of millions of light-years away. Host: Why do you think the government released these videos now? Luis: That’s a great question to ask the U.S. government. I can’t speak on their behalf, but I see it as a positive step. Last year, the Navy confirmed that these videos were real. The Department of Defense also acknowledged these were authentic recordings of unidentified aerial phenomena captured by military pilots. Host: Can you provide an idea of the size of these UFOs? Luis: I must be careful not to reveal sensitive information, but they are described as being between 20 to 50 feet long. Some witnesses describe them as white or resembling a “tic-tac,” others as triangular or disk-shaped. Host: Did your program consider claims of direct contact with extraterrestrials? Luis: That’s hard to deal with because such claims can’t be proven or disproven. In the Pentagon, we focused strictly on military encounters. Now, in the private sector, I can engage with more witnesses. Host: Do you think this is a matter of national security? Luis: Yes, it could be. When the best sensors and pilots say they have no idea what these are, it’s a potential security concern. Host: Thank you, Luis, for speaking with us. Luis: Thank you for having me. It’s been a pleasure. Host: Luis Elizondo, former member of a secret Pentagon program investigating UFOs from 2007 to 2012, now works privately on related research.
